To all of those same mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, uncles, aunts, coaches, neighbors, swimmers and non-swimmers who have expressed an interest in Marin Morrison by visits to and comments in her guest book. Thank you again for your support of this wonderful young lady.

Many of you have also supported her and others like her with your donations either directly to the Marin Morrison fund or to the Wave of Courage Foundation. Thank you for that also. We at Wave of Courage felt privileged to support the trip Marin and her mom took this weekend to Chicago to seek treatment and consultation with a specialist there. We plan to offer more support to Marin and her family and to other beneficiaries in similar circumstances.

We at the Wave of Courage Foundation are still in the process of finishing our application for 501(c)3 status with the IRS. Our application for not for profit status is with the generous lawyers at Jones/Day who are donating their services to make sure everything is in order. We have had many successes, but the progress is slow. All of our board members are volunteers and all have careers that do demand some attention. In spite of that we have launched a rudimentary web site (www.waveofcourage.org) and have been conducting t-shirt and bracelet sales for almost two months. We have been a constant presence at local swim meets selling our wares and do take orders through the web site for our “Super Marin” t-shirts and Marin bracelets. Also one of our board members, Mark Henderson, who is on the US Olympic Committee, has taken ten of those shirts to Torino to try and get as many autographs as he can, and we hope to auction those when he returns.

In regards to Marin (www.marinlove.com) the news of late could be better. Her most recent MRI and PET scan showed a continuing growth of the tumor, and the doctors have not provided many options for treatment. Marin and her parents are seeking clinical trials along with some non-traditional treatments as well. The trip to Chicago is to meet with a specialist there. Due to this recent prognosis Wave of Courage feels a much greater sense of urgency in fund raising, and we are soliciting for donations. One of our major contributors has offered a challenge. Through the month of February he will match dollar for dollar donations up to the first $500. In other words, if we get five hundred between now and February 28 it will become $1000.

We are also trying very hard to put some sort of major fundraiser together along the lines of a concert. So far we have some people who are willing to help but could not fill a venue on their own. If you know anyone who would be willing to help Wave of Courage put together a major fundraiser to help Marin and other young athletes like her please contact our president Matthew Beck at mattbeck@waveofcouarge.org . Items for auction would also be welcome. If a donation at this time is difficult please visit Marin’s web page and donate some words of encouragement and hope. The Morrison family finds the support very uplifting as they read the messages everyday.
